|was born on 10th January 1858 in Radeburg near Dresden in Saxony. He moved to Berlin with his parents in 1867, here he attended school and started his apprenticeship as a lithographer in April 1872. From 1872 on H. Zille had a secure job at the "Photograph Society" in Berlin. In the beginning of the 90s he moved with his family, which now had 5 members, to Charlottenburg, Sophie-Charlotte-Straße 88, 4th floor, where he lived until his dead.
Just to list up a few friends of Zille: Trude Hesterberg, Max Liebermann, Kurt Tucholsky, Joachim Ringelnatz, Clarire Waldoff, Walter Kollo, Walter Mehring, Kurt Gerron, Paul Graetz, Annemarie Hase, Alice Hechy, Senta Söneland, Michel Bohnen.
On 26th February 1929 H. Zille suffered a stroke and died on 9th August 1929. With the "Poor-People-Painter" whose comments often had been contradictory to the misery on his pictures, also the drawer of the Berlin "Millijö" and the "Berliner Rangen" was gone.
